Connecting SPARING Monitoring Points in Pomalaa and Bahodopi Through One Digital Platform

 

PT Vale Indonesia Tbk (PT Vale) is an integrated nickel mining and processing company operating in Indonesia, with operational and development areas including Sorowako, Bahodopi, and Pomalaa. The company has embedded sustainability into its operational management and strategic planning as part of its commitment to responsible mining practices.

Water and effluent management is one of the material sustainability topics identified by PT Vale. The company's sustainability initiatives include responsible water management, water conservation, and continuous improvement in water and effluent practices. PT Vale also implements initiatives to manage water generated from its operations, including the treatment of mine runoff water.

In its 2024 Sustainability Report, PT Vale reported several water and effluent management initiatives, including the Intelligent Coagulant for Mine Water Treatment (INCO MATTE) system for optimizing coagulant dosing in mine runoff treatment. The initiative contributed to a reduction of 87 tons of TSS and 0.11 tons of Cr6+ in 2024. These initiatives reflect the importance of effective water and effluent management within PT Vale mining and processing operations.

With environmental management activities spanning multiple operational areas, continuous and reliable environmental monitoring is important to provide visibility of wastewater conditions and support effective environmental management.

To support this requirement, Ganeca Environmental Services implemented SPARING (Continuous and Real-Time Wastewater Quality Monitoring System) across approximately 24 monitoring points at PT Vale, consisting of 21 monitoring points in Pomalaa and 3 monitoring points in Bahodopi.
